This past year has been like no other, where local governments have had to pivot, embrace new technologies and new ways of connecting with their residents, local businesses and stakeholders. Recognizing the importance of accessing high speed internet, during the pandemic, Shaw more than doubled download internet speeds throughout the province and launched new services to strengthen network security for those working remotely.
At the start of the pandemic, Shaw introduced our Brighter Communities grants to support local charities that are making our communities brighter. Shaw donated over $1M to Canadian Food Banks, opened up thousands of WiFi hotspots throughout the province, allowing free access to the public, and donated devices with free service so less fortunate could stay connected to loved ones and access the services they needed to navigate the new norm.
