Understanding the assessment process

BC Assessment is responsible for assessing over 2 million properties in British Columbia as of July 1 each year.
The assessment process in British Columbia is governed by the Assessment Act of British Columbia. The Assessment Act is legislation that provides rules and processes for BC Assessment to follow when creating and delivering property assessments!

The data on this map is updated on the first business day of each year. It includes information on the average percent change by assessment area, jurisdiction, and neighbourhood (if available). Individual properties are not shown on this map, please use our Assessment Search feature to view individual properties. Note: The neighbourhood boundaries in this map are BCA defined boundaries and may differ from other sources like MLS or local municipalities.

Property Assessments and Property Taxes: A not-so complicated relationship

A common misconception is that a significant change in your assessed value will result in a proportionately significant change in your property taxes. You can find your property class on your assessment notice next to your assessed value.
